The saltwater fishing opportunities for our guests at Grosse Savanne are almost too numerous to list. Because fishing is such an integral part of our programming, we provide a number of resources for our guests, including expert guides to the marsh, Calcasieu Estuary, or the near coastal waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Grosse Savanne borders the finest saltwater fishing lake in the state-and possibly the finest coastal saltwater estuary in the country. Affectionately referred to by locals as "Big Lake," Calcasieu Lake is blessed with 10-pound speckled trout, four feet long red fish, and giant flounder.

For generations, the Calcasieu Estuary has been regarded as a saltwater fishing destination of world-class proportions. An 11.25-pound speckled trout was recently recorded as the new lake record which shows there is a good chance that the new state record of over 12 pounds could come from "Big Lake." Many other species of large fish have been taken such as red fish and black drum weighing as much as 40 - 50 lbs.

In addition to speckled trout and red fish, flounder abound the oyster reef bottoms and salt grass marshes of Calcasieu Lake, while triple-tail, cobia, spanish and king mackeral, vermillion snapper, and black-tip shark are caught in the near coastal waters of the Gulf of Mexico, which are easily accessible through the Calcasieu River.

Light tackle and fly-fishing are also available on a Grosse Savanne vacation.

Overnight Package-Individual (Minimum 6 guests per group on weekends):  $425 per guest

Includes:  Lodging, five course dinner, beverages, continental breakfast, guided 4-6 hour saltwater fishing trip, lunch, all tackle and fish processing.

Overnight Corporate Package-Exclusive Use of Lodge (up to 18 guests):  $7200 per night

Includes:  Lodging, five course dinner, beverages, continental breakfast, guided 4-6 hour saltwater fishing trip, all tackle and fish processing. 

Note:  Corporate and overnight packages based on min. 2 guests per boat.  Guests wishing to fish alone subject to $200 additional fee per trip.

Day Package - Lake Fishing (1 - 18 anglers)

$500 per boat

Includes:  Guided saltwater lake fishing trip, all tackle and fish processing.

Guided saltwater lake fishing day trips are approximately 4 - 6 consecutive hours.

Maximum 3 anglers per boat

Live bait (shrimp) $16 per quart

Maximum 4 fly anglers per day

Rods and reels available at lodge ($10 per visit)

** Please, no black-soled shoes on saltwater lake fishing boats
